Are You Writing Your Own Wedding Vows?

My fiance wants us to write our own vows, but I'd rather stick with the traditional stuff. The thing is he's very sweet and romantic but I'm a less romantic person and even though I love him I find it difficult coming up with a lot of sentimental words.

What did you guys decide to do and why?

Suggestion:

No, we used our church's traditional vows, because they are beautiful!

But you and him don't have to have the same vows – stick with what each of you wants!

im the same, my fiance wants to write our own vows but i dont, so we have come to a compromise and are writing our vows together. we have written up a list of our favourite things about our relationship and have used that as a basis. remember, your vows are a promise, not just a speech about how good you are together.

"i promise to love you, trust you and treasure you for the rest of my life. i swear to put your own happiness before mine, and to always treat you with love, respect and honour. as i have up until now, i swear to do so for the rest of my life."

just a quick draft. i like this because we can rehearse it together, so we dont have to read it off a piece of paper or repeat what the celebrant says.

I know how you feel. We are doing the traditional vows, then we're reading a short sentiment. I don't know what he has planned, but I'm not much of the type to come up with stuff like that. So I'm saying exactly what I feel- "I have 3 words that sum it up Joe, I love you", and that's it. Short, sweet and to the point :-)

hello there,
I will write my own vows I think that the traditional ones are nice but everyone does it, and if I were you I would want to personalize them. because no one would have the same vows as you. just a thought take care and congrats

I always liked the idea of it, but it is a lot of pressure, so I'm glad that we're having the big Catholic wedding instead.
