Connections: "mysterious Ways" Explained

CONNECTIONS

October, 1999, a leaf falls from a tree somewhere in Western Europe. June, 1979, a young boy witnesses a horrific automobile accident in Chicago. What do these two events from different time periods and opposite sides of the world have to do with each other? Nothing at all, you might say. Two seemingly unrelated incidents, right? Yet, they are somehow connected. Check this out.

The leaf blows into the street during a storm and is washed into the storm sewer. It joins a pile of other leaves and debris that clogs the drain. As a result, the streets flood and the town is inundated by three feet of water. You might say that that leaf had little to do with the flood, but it just so happens that that particular leaf was the one that finished the clog. Had that one leaf not been there at that particular moment, the rain would have washed the rest of the pile away. The debris would not have built up and the flood would not have occurred.

Twenty years earlier in another part of the world, the boy rushes to help pull the passengers from a burning car. Because of the accident, the boy is inspired to help people. He develops a strong sense of samaritanism and later signs up as a Red Cross volunteer. When the flood hits the small European town, his group is sent to assist. While helping with the humanitarian effort, he meets the woman who will later become his wife.

It is said that one thing leads to another. Our lives are filled with little things that seem insignificant. What we do not realize most of the time is that these so-called little things are part of something much bigger. One simple little act or object can effect an entire chain of events. One little mishap can start a downward spiral that ends in disaster. Conversely, a simple friendly smile to a stranger can make a big difference and set the pace for the rest of the day.

Hello friends. I have always been somewhat of an open minded and “out there” kind of person. I like to look at things from, let’s say, unconventional points of views.  A lot of things can be learned and discovered if you just apply “outside the box” thinking. I am not afraid of a little controversy, I welcome it. My favorite thing to do is make connections that none would consider. Name any two objects, concepts, or other aspects, the more unlikely the better, and I will find a way to connect them. Go ahead, try me. I dare ya!
