Healthy Eating for Children – Tips to Make It Quick and Painless

In a world where everyone is constantly busy, healthy eating for children can seem impossible.  Children can be very picky with what they eat and may not like what you serve.  Sometimes you feel it’s just easier to give them what they want instead, such as a pizza or fried chicken.  At least this way they’ll eat it without feeding half of it to the family pet.  However, childhood obesity is becoming a real problem because of that sort of attitude to healthy eating for children.  They are showing signs of illnesses that only usually show up in adults and unless this trend stops, they will suffer when they get older.  Of course nobody wants to see anything like that happen.

You may think that healthy eating for children requires a lot of work and preparation.  This is far from the truth.  There are many meals that you can prepare that are quick and easy and don’t require hours to make.  For example, if you are too busy during the day you could prepare food ahead of time and just reheat it when it’s time to eat.  Along with meals giving them healthier snacks goes a long way.  It can be as simple as giving them fruit or veggies instead of a candy bar.

Here are a few more tips to make healthy eating for children easier:

- Avoid frying or deep frying food, instead try baking or grilling to reduce the amount of oil that is used

- Limit the consumption of processed foods such as deli meats and canned goods, as those contain high amounts of salt

- Instead of using salt to add extra flavor to meals, use herbs and spices

- If possible, allow the children to help with the cooking.  Kids are more willing to eat something they helped make.
