Firstly, connect with a guy for whom you really have affections for. If you’re just going for the looks, the money or the prestige, when your real personalities clash, it’ll be a disaster.
When you meet a guy who really shares the same loves as you and who has the same dreams for a future life, you’re already on the track to a long lasting relationship. However, knowing this can only come with time. Spending quality time that reveals a lot about each other will help create a bond that will bring you closer together.
But if you’re now stagnating and the relationship is not moving any further, you need to know why. Is he afraid to move ahead, or has simply not thought of it. Or are you simply anticipating too much too soon?
Men can sometimes feel suffocated is a woman is always at his side and constantly breathing down his neck. It can also be enough to keep him from committing because he sees what’s coming; no more life of his own.
So show him that you do have your own life going on and that you’re not relying completely on him. He does want to feel solid and strong for you, but he doesn’t really want to think that your entire happiness rests on his shoulders.
Also, in taking up the activities or social life you had before him, you’ll have less time to spend with him. To a certain extent, he may feel some relief finding himself with more time to spend on his own. However, in the long run, he’ll start to miss your company and will try to find ways to get you back.
If he starts to feel that he may lose you altogether if he doesn’t make a serious move, he’ll overcome his fear or reluctance to commit and make that move.
And if all fails, simply sit down to talk it out with him. Just be careful of the approach you use. This is a conversation between the two of you and should not come off as your dictation of what should be. Hear him out and show your understanding for his and convey to him how you feel about the importance of a commitment from him.
