Get used to the idea that you cannot and do not want to force your guy into commitment. Guys will take a firm stand against women that attempt to control them, and they will often end a relationship if they feel as though they are being manipulated. But, even more important, how much do you really gain by talking your man into committing to you?
What good does it do if your guy agrees to commitment because he is tired of the pressure you are placing on him? Have you really gained a heartfelt promise? Does it really seem that your man has made up his mind on his own? You gain nothing by forcing a guy into commitment. The best you can do is to be open and honest with him about your feelings and your desire to be exclusive. Once he understands your true emotions and the depth of your feelings, then it is completely up to him as to which direction he wishes take.
Sex is another issue to consider in a relationship. Do not have sex too soon if you want to make him commit. By sleeping with him very early on, you might be sending him a message that you aren’t looking for anything more than a one night stand. He might believe that a casual fling is all that you want and he won’t let his feelings advance any further than that.
By all means, stay away from issuing ultimatums to your guy. Threatening to break up with him or do something crazy if he doesn’t commit to you will probably find you at the end of your relationship, so be calm and fair with your man. If he is not ready, do not go overboard in trying to make him commit. Talk with him, be understanding, but be up front about your intentions and desires. You never know what his response will be.
