Questions About Wedding Vows?

how did you get your wedding vows? is it tacky to just copy/paste ones you like from the internet? it seems so….thoughtless or something, or am I being silly? LOL.

What do you think about these two very traditional vows/passages:

"I, (Name),
Take you, (Name),
To be my (wife/husband);
To have and to hold,
From this day forward,
For better, for worse,
For richer, for poorer,
In sickness and in health,
To love and to cherish,
'Till death do us part." (or, "As long as we both shall live.")

OR

We are here today to participate in a most joyous occasion, to celebrate one of life's greatest moments, by acknowledging the wedding of Arthur and Marilyn.

Arthur, do you take Marilyn to be your lawful wedded wife? Do you promise to love, honor, and protect her? Share the good times and achievements as well as the hard times and disappointments? Keep her in sickness and in sorrow and to be faithful to her forevermore?

Marilyn, do you take Arthur to be your lawful wedded husband? Do you promise to love, honor, and protect him? Share the good times and achievements as well as the hard times and disappointments? Keep him in sickness and in sorrow and to be faithful to him forevermore?

I give you this ring in token and pledge as a symbol of all that we share with my constant faith and abiding love.

Now that you have joined yourselves in matrimony, may you strive always to meet this commitment with the same spirit you now exhibit. We all bear witness to this ceremony you have just performed and you may now call yourselves by those old and respected names, husband and wife. May God bless this union. You may kiss the bride.

Suggestion:

From the ones you have chosen as examples, I'd say you like tradition. So instead of writing your own vows, go the traditional route..which is basically those two that you have listed :)

If your heart is set on writing your own, include them in the ceremony as well. Before or after saying the traditional vows, write each other short and sweet ones. They don't have to be long and elaborate, they just have to mean something to you both. A good example would be something like "John, You are my soul-mate. My best friend, the one who holds me when I cry and makes me laugh when I'm angry. I promise to love you every moment of forever."

Go with what you feel is best and what represents you both are as a couple. I've had couples who read parts of love letters they had written to each other, one that made theirs rhyme, and another's who took lyrics from songs. What matters most is that it reflects who you both are and that it is meaningful to you.

Good luck and have a beautiful wedding!
