Wedding Positions of Honor for Close Friends Besides Bridesmaids?

I have many close girl friends that I would love to include in my wedding, but I don't want my wedding party to be too large. What are some positions or ways besides being a Bridesmaid, to include them in my wedding?
I still want them to feel special (for example, NOT serving punch! haha)
Any ideas or suggestions would very much be appreciated!
Thank you!

Suggestion:

There's varying opinions on this, but mine is that these consolation prizes that people sometimes use (doing a reading, monitoring guest book, etc) are more annoying than flattering. And I'd guess if someone's feelings are hurt by not being asked to stand up, this type of thing won't change that.

I guess my suggestion would be to ask each girl if there's something she'd like to do just to see if she mentions something.

Something that I plan on doing is having a close friend read a poem during the ceremony. A guest book attendant is also something a lot of people do. If you have a close guy friend he could walk your mom down the aisle.

1. a reader during the ceremony
2. a soloist during the ceremony
3. lighting candles before or during the ceremony
4. handling the guestbook
5. being ushers

There are actually quite a few jobs. Just get creative!

well if you are having a mass you can pick three people to do the reading and you could have some one say a poem there is so much for ppl to do at mass you can ask your priest what has to be done and see if your friend can fill the position instead of a church person well i hope this helps this is a good question hope all goes well and congrats
