What to Check When Choosing Wedding Venue

The venue you pick would set the tone of your wedding day, and therefore it is one of the most important decisions that you will make when getting started with your wedding planning. The feel of the place has to be right for you, and has to express your personality through it, as it will be the focal point of your day. But the things you also need to keep in mind are staff friendliness and willingness, as you will be entrusting the smooth running of your day with them. Check the feedback from previous clients, make sure they are capable of living up to your expectations, and is willing to go that extra mile if necessary.

Even though the atmosphere of the venue can be fantastic, it is essential to remember when making a decision what your feelings would be if it is a public building, pub, hotel, etc., where general public can/will be walking in and out of.

Depending on what sort of venue you choose to have, food maybe provided as part of the service, or you may have to bring in outside caterers. Either way, it is strongly recommended that you try the chosen meal before you agree to it. This would reduce the possibility of nasty surprises on the day. Also check their capability to provide for guests with special dietary requirements, such as vegetarians, specific allergies, etc.

Even though it might be the last thing on people’s mind, it is worth considering, specially if you have children of your own, the provisions of keeping children entertained while the grown ups have their meal or during speeches. Since the last thing you would want is a bored or a unhappy child, as that would have an effect on your enjoyment of the day.

It is also important that your venue is able to tailor the day around your requirements, and if they are unable to provide you with exactly what you want, it might be worth checking elsewhere. A venue should be able to make provision for you to be able to decorate rooms as you wish. They should also be able make the venue available for showing around other vendors such as wedding photographers, DJ, etc. before the day.

When booking make sure you look around a few different venues as while some have fantastic websites, only by viewing in person can you make your decision in full confidence.
